太傅東海王鎮許昌，以王安期為記室參軍，雅相知重。敕世子毗曰：“夫學之所益者淺，體之所安者深。閑習禮度，不如式瞻儀形。諷味遺言，不如親承音旨。王參軍人倫之表，汝其師之！”或曰：“王、趙、鄧三參軍，人倫之表，汝其師之！”謂安期、鄧伯道、趙穆也。袁宏作名士傳直雲王參軍。或雲趙家先猶有此本。
簡文在殿上行，右軍與孫興公在後。右軍指簡文語孫曰：“此啖名客！”簡文顧曰：“天下自有利齒兒。”後王光祿作會稽，謝車騎出曲阿祖之。王孝伯罷秘書丞在坐，謝言及此事，因視孝伯曰：“王丞齒似不鈍。”王曰：“不鈍，頗亦驗。”
